Welcome to Class 1 – Where the Magic of Learning Begins!
A very warm and enthusiastic welcome to you and your child as you embark on this exciting new chapter at Coads Green Primary School! Class 1 is the starting point of a wonderful adventure, and we are thrilled to be part of this pivotal moment in your child’s educational journey. From Pre-School through to Year 2, we are a vibrant, friendly team who thrive on learning together, supporting one another, and exploring the world around us.
At the heart of our Class 1 family is our passionate teaching team: Mrs. Howard, your child’s class teacher, along with our exceptional Learning Support Assistants - Mrs. Abbott, Mrs. Rippin, and Mrs. Alford. We are all committed to providing a nurturing and inspiring environment where every child can flourish.
Our Holistic Approach to Learning: Developing the Whole Child
In Class 1, we believe in a truly holistic approach to education - focusing not only on academic success but also on emotional and social growth. The Foundation Stage is a time for your child to develop strong roots that will support them throughout their entire learning journey. Our approach ensures that every child’s individual needs are met, and they are encouraged to thrive in all aspects of their development.
We focus on three core areas that form the bedrock of all learning:
Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED): Helping children build resilience, empathy, and self-confidence, so they feel secure and ready to explore the world with curiosity and excitement.
Communication and Language (C&L): Enabling children to express themselves with clarity and creativity, fostering strong communication skills that will serve them for a lifetime.
Physical Development (PD): Encouraging healthy, active lifestyles, from fine motor skills to gross motor activities, helping children develop coordination and a love of movement.
By nurturing these areas, we’re not just preparing children for the classroom, but for life itself, giving them the tools they need to become confident, independent, and compassionate individuals.
Learning Through Play, Exploration, and Imagination
Our curriculum is a fusion of adult-led learning and child-initiated play, creating a rich and engaging environment where learning flows naturally and joyfully. We follow your child’s interests, ensuring that each experience is meaningful, personal, and full of wonder. Whether they are experimenting with science, solving problems, or engaging in imaginative play, every moment is an opportunity for discovery and growth.
We are incredibly fortunate to be situated in such a beautiful rural setting, nestled against the stunning backdrop of Bodmin Moor. Our school grounds and the surrounding nature provide a rich and inspiring environment for outdoor learning. We place great emphasis on getting children outdoors, where they can develop a deep appreciation for the natural world. Our outdoor experiences instill a lifelong love of nature, fostering both curiosity and respect for the environment.
A Passion for Reading – Inspiring Lifelong Learners
At Coads Green, we are passionate about reading and believe it is key to unlocking a child’s potential. We encourage children to read at home every day, whether it’s their school phonics book or a favorite story from home. Our teachers read to the children regularly, sparking imagination and developing a love for books, storytelling, and language. Through these shared reading experiences, we cultivate a lifelong love of learning that extends far beyond the classroom.
A Bright Start to a Bright Future
We are confident that your child will have a happy, exciting, and rewarding start to their journey at Coads Green. Our nurturing and inspiring environment, combined with our creative and holistic approach to learning, ensures that each child is not only prepared for school but is empowered to become a lifelong learner, full of curiosity, confidence, and enthusiasm.
