Intent

Becoming healthy, independent and responsible members of society.

We believe that through the teaching of PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Education) and Citizenship, our pupils become healthy, independent and responsible members of society. They learn to understand about their rights and responsibilities as an individual and show empathy and understanding to others. It develops their sense of self-worth by encouraging them to play a positive role in school life and the wider community.

Implementation

PSHE is delivered using the SCARF (Safety, Caring, Achievement, Resilience, Friendship) materials.

Coram Life Education & SCARF is the UK's leading charity provider of PSHE and wellbeing education in primary schools and is the scheme that has been adopted by An Daras Trust and Coads Green Primary School.

It provides:

A Whole-school approach to health and wellbeing

A fully resourced, comprehensive PSHE programme

Resources are accessed online and are therefore are always current and relevant

It fulfils all DfE statutory requirements for Relationships & Health Education

Assessment tools & progression are embedded within the scheme

SCARF's whole-school approach supports our school in promoting positive behaviour, mental health, wellbeing, resilience and achievement – providing everything needed to meet the DfE RSHE statutory requirements.

The curriculum is divided into six core themes, which run throughout the key stages:

The lessons have been sequenced to reinforce learning and build on knowledge.

Assessment

Assessment in Coads Green Primary School is viewed as building a picture over time of a child's learning progress across the curriculum and is viewed as an integral part of teaching and learning.

Assessment for learning (AFL) and Visible Learning underpin all learning. A variety of feedback is used to inform the pupils about their learning so that they become more involved in their own learning and from this gain confidence in what they are expected to learn and how to progress it further.

Core success criteria and learning intentions are used to track pupils understanding of their learning.

The SCARF materials provide an assessment unit per term.

Pupil Retrieval Practices include:

Concept/ mind maps, questioning, success criteria, learning intentions and pupil targets.

Whole School Tracking and Progress

Coads Green Primary School uses iTRACK which is the online pupil tracking software that uses powerful data analysis to track pupil progress and attainment in real time.
